THE ISLAND BETWEEN TIDES - TALKING WITH THE STARS CAMILLE SULLIVAN and PALOMA KWIATKOWSKI

The Island Between Tides is a gothic story based on a gothic bedtime story written by J.M. Barrie.

The Island Bewteen tides is based on Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie's 1920 gothic bedtime story/play Mary Rose and will be opening in select theatres on April 25.

From Vancouver directing duo Austin Andrews and Andrew Holmes the film stars Paloma Kwiatkowski, (Riot Girls) Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy),and Camille Sullivan (Shorsey).

It centers around a young girl named Lily is lured by a mysterious melody onto a remote tidal island, she crosses back over at the next low tide only to realize that 25 years have passed. While the original story was set in Scotland, the filmmakers have reimagined the story in Prince Rupert, B.C., where the protagonist, struggling with her young son, vanishes under similar circumstances and must rebuild her life upon her return.

Kelowna-born filmmaker Andrew Holmes who co-directed with longtime collaborator Austin Andrews, the film transforms the haunting tale of loss, time, and redemption against the rugged backdrop of northern British Columbia.

According to a recent interview with Andrew Holmes, when Mary Rose was playing in London’s West End, Alfred Hitchcock was in the audience and fell in love with it. For years, he tried to turn it into a feature film, but studios rejected the idea, saying, “No one wants to see a movie about a ghost.”

“[Hitchcock] told his biographer that his greatest regret in life was not being able to make Mary Rose into a film, so here we are years later and it has been brought to life in a Canadian indie.

I spoke with stars Paloma Kwiatkowski and Camille Sullivan about what drew them to this haunting story and whether they believe in ghosts.
