OUTRAGEOUS - WE GET THE LOWDOWN FROM STARS BESSIE CARTER and JAMES PUREFOY

They made noise. They made headlines. They made history. Buckle up for the BritBox Original new series, OUTRAGEOUS!

The BritBox Original series Outrageous is based on the true story of the Mitford sisters who played by their own rules – with sometimes devastating consequences. Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, Outrageous is inspired by the lives of the aristocratic Mitford sisters - six headstrong women who frequently made headlines around the world.

Yet their lives would ultimately take very different paths – from Nancy who became a celebrated author and journalist, to Jessica who rejected her inherited privilege and dedicated her life to revolutionary causes. A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.

A TRIBECA FESTIVAL selection, the six part series stars Bessie Carter, Joanna Vanderham, Anna Chancellor, James Purefoy, Shannon Watson, Zoe Brough and Calam Lynch.

Bessie Carter leads the Outrageous cast as eldest Mitford daughter and series narrator, Nancy. Most recently, Bessie portrayed Carole Findlater in the BritBox miniseries A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, opposite Lucy Boynton and Toby Jones. Bessie also stars as Prudence Featherington in Netflix & Shondaland’s global phenomenon Bridgerton. Onstage, Bessie played a lead role in Dear Octopus at the National Theatre to brilliant reviews, and previously played a significant role opposite Sally Field in All My Sons at the Old Vic.

James Purefoy is best known for playing Mark Antony in the award-winning HBO series Rome (2007/8) and Joe Carroll in the acclaimed series The Following (2012-2015) opposite Kevin Bacon. Other credits include his role of King George VI in Churchill (2017) opposite Brian Cox. Recent TV credits include playing Hap in Hap & Leonard (Sundance TV), Altered Carbon (Netflix), Sex Education (Netflix), El Candidato (Amazon), No Man’s Land (Hulu), and Pennyworth (Epix). Other prominent film credits include starring in the first installment of ResidentEvil (2002), playing Rawdon Crawley in Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair (2004) opposite Reese Witherspoon and also Edward, the Black Prince, in A Knight’sTale (2001) alongside Heath Ledger.
