CATCHING UP WITH EMMY WINNER AND CRITICS CHOICE NOMINEE BRITT LOWER ABOUT HER ROLES ON THE HIT SERIES SEVERANCE
/Britt Lower is on a role, or should I say roles. She plays both Helly R and Helena on the hit Apple TV series, Severance and has been deservedly recognized for her amazing work!
Britt Lower has made a name for herself on screen but it is her role in the series Severance that has catapulted her career into the stratosphere.
Britt, who plays both Helly R. and Helena loves portraying the character's intense internal conflict between her rebellious "innie" self and her controlled "outie" persona, Helena, exploring themes of autonomy, identity, and the relatable struggle with one's inner critic, with her experiences in the circus influencing her embodied performance.
Lower embraces the duality, finding empathy for both Helly's fight for freedom and Helena's trapped circumstances, highlighting the show's deep dive into "who am I, really?
She won the Emmy Award this year for her performance and is up for a Critic’s Choice Award for Best actress in a Drama Series. Lower has also been seen in and around Toronto first for her role in the film, Darkest Miriam where her character Miriam is overcome with grief as she deals with the death of her father. She lives quietly as a librarian at the Allan Gardens branch of the Toronto Library until her life is turned upside down after she begins receiving threatening letters.
Lower also spent the Summer in Toronto shooting the upcoming Netflix Series based on Harlan Coben's I Will Find You, an eight-episode thriller where she plays journalist Rachel Mills alongside Sam Worthington and Milo Ventimiglia, following an innocent father's prison break to find his potentially alive son.
Also this past year, she starred in the dark comedy film Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write about a Serial Killer, playing Suzie, a woman seeking marriage counseling from a retired serial killer (Steve Buscemi) who moonlights as a writer, creating a twisted dynamic where therapy and murder inspiration intertwine. The film, released in 2025, is a psychological thriller exploring identity, manipulation, and mental health with sharp humor.
I caught up with Britt Lower to chat about her success and working on Severance which goes back into production in April for Season 3.
